Other Characters: N/A
Name: Slouchy Smurfling
From: The Smurfs
Appearance: Slouchy is a juvenile Smurf who stands two apples tall. He's distinguished from the other Smurflings by his baggy red t-shirt, white sneakers and floppy cap. He rarely stands up straight and usually looks bored or tired. [See accompanying image
here]
Age: 100 (Though he's physically de-aged to a Smurfling, he HAS lived 100 years.)
Gender: Male
Personality: Slouchy is incredibly laid-back and easy-going. He's almost always lounging against something - a doorway, a tree trunk, a wall. Unlike his friends, who are constantly bickering, he seems uninterested in petty arguing and pretty much goes along with what the other Smurflings suggest as fun activities or adventures. He's incredibly patient (except when it comes to Brainy and sometimes Snappy) and almost always a step behind any one else, though he doesn't seem to mind getting left behind at all.
One thing Slouchy does mind is tattling. He seems to have little patience for the childish squabbles the other Smurflings get in to and is constantly telling them it's not nice to get each other in trouble. He even gets upset when he has to tattle on his friends in order to save them from Gargamel, saying he doesn't want to be a tattletale. He also doesn't like talking about others behind their backs, though he does occasionally do so. He's very honest and blunt, having few problems with telling Brainy his ideas are bad or reminding Sassette that Gargamel "doesn't hate them, he only wants to [eat them]."
Slouchy has a bit of an inferiority complex, due to being the smallest Smurf in the village (discounting Baby, who is, naturally, a baby). He's sensitive to size jokes and doesn't like being called little. His short stature may be due in part to his constantly slumped posture. Despite the teasing of the other Smurflings, his size is a moot point, because all Smurfs grow to be the same size as adults. Even with this knowledge, however, he's really upset about being smaller than the others.
Though he's smallest, Slouchy has a big heart and a forgiving nature. He doesn't remember his time as an adult, but does seem wise beyond his years. He comes up with ideas to save the day from time to time, such as tying himself and Brainy to a tree so as not to get sucked into the pull of a blue magnet Gargamel is using to catch Smurfs or using sign language as a way to sing when music has been stricken from the world. He also doesn't seem to mind when the others take credit for his ideas or victories, as most Smurfs do. He has a good sense of what's right and wrong, for a child, and likes for things to be fair, even going as far as to help out with things that might not be something he wants to do.
As most children are, Slouchy is pretty emotional. His mellow personality helps him keep his feelings in check, however, and he isn't as volatile as his friends Snappy and Sassette. He does get annoyed easily, often making mildly sarcastic comments about the things that bother him, such as Brainy needing his poetic license revoked or Lazy only being able to keep him company if he talks in his sleep. Slouchy expresses himself mostly through his music, though he does sometimes get loud and bouncy when he's excited about something.
Though not as competitive and energetic as his friends, Slouchy does enjoy going on adventures and hiking. He also likes swimming and playing smurfball, a game somewhat similar to soccer.
Backstory: Once upon a time, Slouchy was a grown-up Smurf, like most other residents of the village. He met his destiny, however, when Papa Smurf sent him and his friends, Natural and Snappy, on an errand to Father Time's to have an hourglass repaired. Finding Father Time has stepped out, the three Smurfs inevitably get in to trouble when the always-impulsive Snappy takes an interest in a cuckoo clock that runs backwards. Opening the door to the clock results in Natural's butterfly friend getting sucked inside and trapped, which of course leads the three Smurfs to try and rescue him...
Unfortunately, the clock has the power to reverse time and when the three emerge from inside, they are no longer grown Smurfs, but children! Not knowing what happened to them and picking up as if they'd been children all along, the trio returns to the village, where Papa is shocked by their appearance.
Even more unfortunately, Father Time says there's nothing he can do to revert the three Smurflings back to their natural age, so it's determined they'll simply have to grow up again. The other Smurfs grumble about this, but eventually accept that they now have children to care for and provide them with a playhouse to live in, some new clothes and a loving, warm environment in which to grow. Slouchy, now clad in a red t-shirt and wielding a saxophone made from junk, doesn't seem to mind this one bit. After all, life is always one adventure after another when you're young!
Moral Standing: Good
Dreams: Slouchy's biggest aspirations seem to be keeping the peace between his friends, making music, and getting taller. He doesn't ever display a particular aptitude for any one occupation/talent/or calling, like most Smurfs.
Fears: Gargamel and Azrael; being eaten.
Extra: Slouchy is a hoarder. He hates to part with anything, be it a favorite toy, an article of clothing, or something as mundane as a piece of bark. He ran out of room in his closet and tried to find other places to store his things, all to no avail.
He can speak American Sign Language and is especially good at checkers.
Slouchy is a proponent of healthy eating and often eats the other Smurflings' vegetables, which they find yucky.
The Smurflings all enjoy music and dancing and Slouchy is no exception to this. His instrument of choice is a saxophone made from an old pipe he found in Handy's backyard, which he plays quite well. Aside from playing his saxophone, he also is interested in song writing and has a great appreciation for all kinds of music.
A notable accomplishment of Slouchy's is that while the other Smurfs are constantly finding themselves in trouble, Slouchy is one of the few Smurfs who usually manages to stay out of trouble. While his friends are constantly getting punished for minor infractions -their tails growing from a "tattle tail" spell, being made to help Farmer grow vegetables- Slouchy is usually exempt from the punishment, since he is more restrained than the other three Smurflings.

Slouchy remained in the doorway a moment longer, then shuffled fully in to the room. He paused beside the desk, peering up at Brainy, head canted to the side. He didn't say anything, but he didn't need to for Brainy to find his presence irritating.
"…What?" He asked waspishly, "What is it, Slouchy? I said I don't know where Clumsy is and, as you can see, I am very busy."
The smaller Smurf was silent for a moment longer, looking up at Brainy as if he expected the spectacled Smurf to suddenly admit he did indeed know where Clumsy had gone.
Slouchy was a bit disappointed; he had planned on asking Clumsy to go walnut picking with him. Greedy had promised smurfberry nut pancakes, if only some one would fetch him the required nuts. The other Smurflings were busy with a smurfball and Slouchy –who hadn't been in the mood for running around that morning, but had been in the mood for pancakes- had been hoping Clumsy would be willing to go out into the woods with him – He wasn't allowed to go alone, and the easy-going Smurf was most likely to accept the invite.
"…Did you and Clumsy get in a fight?"
At the question, Brainy glanced back over at Slouchy, surprised.
Slouchy had surprised himself with the inquiry; he usually let things slide and accepted the answers grown-ups gave him. But something about this seemed strange, strange in a way Slouchy didn't quite understand. It made him feel a little awkward, though…Maybe it was because he'd never been alone in Brainy's house, or maybe it was because it was unusual to see Brainy without his Clumsy-shadow. In any case, something had compelled Slouchy to blurt the question out, and now it hung heavy in the air, waiting to be answered.
"Why would you think that?" Brainy's voice –tight, controlled- broke the silence after a moment. He slowly lowered the quill, setting it on the desk, and turned fully on his stool, regarding Slouchy, expression cool and stony.
The look in his eyes sent shivers dancing up and down the little Smurfling's spine. "Well…When me and Snappy fight…That's the only time I dunno where he is." He offered by way of explanation, one shoulder lifting in a shrug. "And it's, ya know, kind of weird that Clumsy isn't here with you so I thought maybe you had a fight." It wasn't necessarily the best logic, but it certainly made sense to Slouchy.
